The Iris Project - Olympics Workshops

Olympics Workshops

Our workshops last approximately one hour and are divided in two halves. The first half consists of a multimedia-enhanced interactive lesson, revolving around comparisons between the Ancient Olympics and the modern Games.

Four thematic blocks are addressed:

1. The athletes’ training
2. Locations
3. Athletic events
4. Honouring the victors

The second half of the workshop is a group activity, which gives the students an opportunity to work collaboratively and implement some of the information learnt during the first session. The group activity is organised around a competition, consisting of three categories:

-Designing a poster for the London 2012 Olympic Games (A4 size)
-Writing a poem (maximum 30 lines) to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games
-Inventing and describing a new sporting category for the London 2012 Olympic Games

The winning entry will be published in the magazine Iota and exhibited in City Hall, as well as receiving a letter of congratulations from Boris Johnson
